Breaking Barriers Through Accessibility and Inclusion
In April 2026, Yasmin Atwal spoke at the United Nations Headquarters in New York during the ECOSOC Youth Forum. Her presentation, “Disability, Legal Literacy and Accessibility,” focused on the importance of creating more inclusive and accessible communities for individuals with disabilities. Yasmin discussed the barriers many individuals with disabilities face in education, leadership, and everyday life, while emphasizing the importance of legal literacy, accessibility, universal design, and inclusive opportunities for youth. Drawing from her work on the National Disability Inclusion Toolkit, she highlighted practical strategies schools and organizations can implement to promote equity, accessibility, and disability inclusion in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Driving Inclusive Change Through Education, Accessibility,
and Climate Action
Yasmin Atwal’s work strongly aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through her advocacy, leadership, and community initiatives. Her National Disability Inclusion Toolkit and accessibility advocacy support SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting inclusive and equitable learning environments for students with disabilities. Her focus on accessibility, disability rights, and reducing barriers advances SDG 10.
Reduced Inequalities by encouraging greater inclusion and equal opportunities for marginalized communities. Through Women STEM Mentorship and her advocacy for accessible STEM education, Yasmin also contributes to SDG 5: Gender Equality and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure by empowering girls and youth with disabilities to pursue leadership and STEM opportunities. Her legal literacy initiatives and human rights advocacy align with SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by increasing awareness of accessibility rights, inclusion, and equitable policies. In addition, her environmental work through Green Teen Generation supports SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by promoting sustainability, environmental education, and youth-led climate initiatives. Collectively, Yasmin’s work demonstrates a strong commitment to creating a more inclusive, accessible, equitable, and sustainable future.
